Edward von Lõngus’ apocalyptic church “Doomsday Cathedral”Sepapaja 10, Tallinn (Ülemiste City) | Wed - Sun at 3pm - 8pm |
2 - 30 JULY |
---|
- 800 m2 of space to experience - A guided tour of a mirror reflecting the soul of humanity - Street art on steel plates – frightening 25m2 large-scale works - 300,000 banknotes “Doomsday Cathedral” is not a conventional exhibition, but a unique spatial experience – on entering the cathedral, you are faced with a capital-fixated world, where death and destruction are seen as entertainment. The large-scale works at the exhibition extend to staggering dimensions – the works weighing almost half a ton are created on frightening 25 square-metre steel plates and hung with cables from the ceiling beams. The main work at the exhibition is Lõngus’ remix of Michelangelo’s fresco in the Sistine Chapel, which depicts The Last Judgment. The effect is both grand as well as sacred, although instead of saints entering heaven, the work is more reminiscent of the work “Hell” by legendary Estonian printmaker Eduard Wiiralt. “Death reaps with a wider reach than ever before, but instead of a scythe he uses more modern tools. Modern death is industrialised, mechanised, calculated, transformed into factories, machines, numbers and efficiency coefficients,” says Lõngus commenting on how people have become great partners with death. “It’s no longer a reluctant dance, but a wild orgy.” The large-scale exhibition will be held in a factory built in 1899 where chemical-technological apparatuses were manufactured for nuclear power plants, which means that they were feeding the phenomena, which places humanity’s growing demand for energy and consumption on one side of the scales and life and safety on the other. The timing is also fitting – the world has gone through a lot this spring and Lõngus’ description of the apocalypse has arrived in a new situation, grievous in every way. Are the seconds till the end of the world ticking even faster now?
WHERE: Sepapaja 10, Tallinn (Ülemiste City) WHEN: Wednesday - Sunday at 3pm - 8pm Regular tickets for the large-scale exhibition and admission to the guided tours can be bought from Piletilevi. Regular tickets are also sold at the venue, price 7 EUR.

Must Kast presents “ONE HUNDRED SECONDS TILL MIDNIGHT”Sepapaja 10, Tallinn (Ülemiste City) | 9pm |
2 - 4 & 9 - 11 JULY |
---|
“One Hundred Seconds till Midnight” is a collaborative performance between Must Kast and Edward von Lõngus, which will debut together with the opening of Lõngus’ first solo exhibition in Tallinn. The basis of the piece combines the artist’s work with the visions of John from the Book of Revelation in the New Testament. Drawing on the fact that Lõngus’s plan is to create an inverted church to consumerism, Must Kast furnishes the space with a ritual performance, which plays with the same themes. The performance is an ironic consecration of consumer culture, which is not dissuaded by the predictions of hundreds of scientists. It is an apocalyptic party, spatial experience, which is perhaps reminiscent of the motto of the Danse Macabre, which was an inspiration for one of the large scale works at the exhibition: memento mori. Stage director / Playwright: Kaija M Kalvet Artist: Inga Vares Composer: Kaarel Kuusk Lighting designer: Karl Marken Choreographer: Jaanika Tammaru On stage: Kaarel Targo, Birgit Landberg, Laura Niils, Karl Edgar Tammi, Agur Seim, Mariann Tammaru, Kristian Põldma, Jaanika Tammaru For ages 16+

Come and witness the humorous art project “Artist Crisis Center”Pärnu mnt 154, Tallinn | 12pm |
2 - 9 JULY |
---|
“Artist Crisis Center” unfolds in the Project Space of ARS Art Factory (read: reception area) 2–9 July in support of artists who have fallen between the cogs of life and beneath the hooves of Pegasus. In addition to a shelter for abandoned artworks and a soup kitchen, the beige interior offers a cosy atmosphere as succour for restless souls and anxious minds. Soft sounds guide visitors through the gentle interior of the space and offer support for artists in these difficult times. A considered placement of seats avoids the exaggerated ostentatious discomfort of art events, in addition to this, the soft lighting alleviates the imperfection of the awkward artist and their embarrassing artwork. “Artist Crisis Center” is a collaborative project by Ieva Kraule-Kūna and Elīna Vītola, which offers shelter to works cast out by the art world. Artist Darja Melnikova is also part of the project. The exhibition will remain open until 9 July.
WHERE: Pärnu mnt 154, Tallinn WHEN: 2 July at 12pm Mon-Fri 12–6pm and Sat 12–4pm Admission to the exhibition is free.

“past taleS from the future of an unWritten storY” Neither one, nor two. Neither me, nor you. Neither id, nor ego. Neither bad, nor good, Neither face, nor hood, Neither past, present or to be so. To the world its straight standing frame, Is how time sees its slanting shadow. Every time there is the opportunity of a show, The trick is to display the work in a kind of Frozen Stage. Though it is a process. This creates a distortion. And a massive pain to prioritize. The Osprey and the Hawk, Sekajäte Collective, stress coping mechanisms, teabags, tvs, empty injections and toilet paper bones, a ridiculous amount of spare needles. Videos. Training and current outcome. What to be human gives and what not to feel like it takes. A waste disposal from what was can help one to build something that is. The opening of Ruudu Rahumaru’s exhibition “Temple Keepers” at Fahle GalleryFahle Gallery, Tartu mnt 84a, Tallinn | 7pm |
3 JULY |
---|
“Temple Keepers” is an animist and supernatural exhibition about the synergy between a person and ancient nature with exotic and organic patterns from the emotional world of the artist. Fairy tale photographs of nature and psychedelic patterns meet in Ruudu Rahumaru’s characteristic photo-paintings. The works were produced during photo trips through the landscapes of nature and the soul, and convey the artist’s attempt to capture universal and substantial sources of energy. Portals for travelling to the inspired world of nature, where you will hopefully recognise the gates of the temple of your soul. These pictures contain an experience of life and of the forest, which is more like reality than that which we can see with our eyes. If our environment is preserved, so are we and vice versa. We are an endless communal breathing, although at times, it may seem that I am only me. It is always more. There are rich worlds beyond that visible to our eyes where everything is connected.

Under the water on the moon 2Okapi Gallery, Niguliste 2, Tallinn | 5pm |
4 JULY |
---|
u n d e r t h e w a t e r o n t h e m o o n is an image, a concept of a similar vibration frequency that one would encounter either at the bottom of water or in deep space. Loneliness, silence, blurring of the concept of time, strange light - this is how artists and freedivers Maarja Mäemets and Rait Lõhmus would explain their descent into the depths of water. Added to this is a special all-encompassing experience that seems as impossible to describe as a trip to the Moon. Installation fragments, photo recordings and video clips exhibited at OKAPI Gallery are artists' inner reflections of their experiences underwater. u n d e r t h e w a t e r o n t h e m o o n is a multimedia project that started in spring 2017 when the first series of underwater photos of glass objects by Maarja Mäemets were taken in the Rummu Quarry (authors: freedivers Toomas Kivikas and Rait Lõhmus). The inspiration and recognition that followed that one experience has led the artists to new creative experiments and challenges in the depths to this day. In spring 2020, their first major underwater exhibition will take place in the waters of the Rummu Quarry where the artists will exhibit mixed media pieces combining glass art, concrete and ready-made objects. The artists believe that water will create a new context for their creation, challenge their installing and visualizing skills as well as expand immensely the whole art experience. The current exhibition (under the water on the moon II) at Okapi Gallery brings this experimental and special project from the depths of water onto the ground, inviting the viewer on a strange journey. The artists would like to thank: Freedivers Toomas Kivikas and Vahur Vogt, Rummu Adventurecenter, Sander Kiviselg, Temuri Khvingija, OKAPI Gallery, Krutski Brand.
WHERE: Okapi Gallery, Niguliste 2, Tallinn WHEN: July 4 at 5pm The exhibition remains open until July 31, 2020

Artist Talk & Exhibition Opening: Ignas PavliukevičiusFotografiska Tallinn, Telliskivi 60a/8, Tallinn | kell 6-7pm |
23 JULY |
---|
The midsummer will bring a new exhibition Waterproof Heart to Fotografiska, created by the young Lithuanian new media artist Ignas Pavliukevičius, who combines his fascination for technology with interactive media and contemporary art. In his work, he explores the relationship between human being and artificial intelligence, both based on his personal experiences and those of his post-socialist generation. The exhibition is open to all guests from July 24 to September 6. At the end of 2019, Pavliukevičius won a Fotografiska's special prize in the Nordic & Baltic Young Artist Award competition, which allowed him to organize his solo exhibition at the photography art centre. His work caught the jury's eye because of its uniqueness and use of multimedia: as technology advances, the boundaries between photography and video are increasingly blurred, but Ignas offers a fresh approach to combining moving and static images. As a celebration of the opening of the exhibition, Fotografiska Tallinn and NOBA (Nordic & Baltic Art Center) are planning an Artist Talk (in English) with Ignas Pavliukevičius on July 23 at 6 PM. After the event, you're welcomed to visit the exhibition. ℹ️ Please RSVP: From event page or ticket link!
